City to host Press Conference to Announce Peoria Equity Accountability Program Program Will Include Minority and/or Women-Owned Business Directory
July 27, 2022 (Peoria, IL) The city of Peoria will hold a press conference on Monday, August 1 at 10:30 am to kick off the Peoria Equity Accountability Program (PeAP). Melodi Green, Chief Diversity and Equity Officer for the city of Peoria will be joined by local business owners and community partners to introduce the program which will revolve around a directory of minority and/or women-owned businesses (M/WBEs). The directory will include certified businesses from hospitality to engineering and construction. Officer Green will also announce a Community Launch event where staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist business owners in the certification process, which is the first step to being included in the directory.

The City launched the Peoria Equity Accountability Program (PeAP) to provide opportunities for minority and/or women-owned businesses. The first program will be the creation of the Minority and/or Women-Owned Business Directory. Business owners are invited to come to the Peoria Public Library, 107 NE Monroe St, Lower Level 2, to get certified for the directory. Staff and volunteers will be present to assist with correct documentation and entering the information.

12Tourism Reserve Fund "Virtual" MeetingFire Chief Sollberger and Assistant Fire Chief Morgan Badge PinningAug 12 Sollberger & Morgan are Graduates of Peoria Public Schools and Illinois Central College August 8, 2022 (Peoria, IL) The City of Peoria will hold a Badge Pinning Ceremony on Friday, August 12 at 11:00 a.m. to acknowledge the promotion of Shawn Sollberger as Fire Chief and Rick Morgan as Assistant Fire Chief. The ceremony will be held at Central Fire Station, 505 N.E. Monroe Street, in the apparatus bay. The public is invited to attend. Chief Sollberger comes from a family of firefighters. His grandfather, William “Bill” Sollberger was the Interim Fire Chief of the department in the 1980s, and his father, Robert “Bob” Sollberger retired 10 years ago as a Battalion Chief. His cousin, Alex Sollberger, currently works for the East Peoria Fire Department. Chief Sollberger’s father will pin his badge at the ceremony. Reflecting on his new position at the Fire Department, Chief Sollberger stated, “When someone calls 911, it is their worst day. As professional firefighters, we have the unique and gratifying ability to make a positive impact, in that moment, in the community on a daily basis. I have not taken that for granted since the day I was hired.” Rick Morgan will be pinned as Assistant Chief. Assistant Chief Morgan has served the community for over 28 years, most recently as Division Chief of Operations. He has also held the positions of Battalion Chief of Suppression and Fire Captain. A graduate of the University of Central Missouri, he holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and associate degrees in general education and fire science. Both men are proud graduates of Peoria Public Schools. Chief Sollberger graduated from Peoria High School and Assistant Chief Morgan from Manual Highschool. Both also hold multiple degrees from Illinois Central College. Fire Fighters first receive their badges upon graduation from the Fire Academy. Subsequent Badge Pinning Ceremonies recognize promotions within the department.
