Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)
The City Clerk’s Office handles all FOIA Requests submitted to the City of Peoria, and the Peoria Police Department handles FOIA Requests pertaining to the Police Department, in accordance with Illinois State Statute.
Requests will receive a response within 5 days, and Commercial Requests will receive a response within 21 days.
Online FOIA Request submissions through JustFOIA allows the requestor to determine the status of the request, receive documents through the online portal, and provides an option to create an account to better track all requests.

Within 5 business days after receipt of a request, the body must reply either with the copies, an “extension notification” for nor more than 5 additional business days or a denial. Failure to reply is considered a denial.
The extension is available if the request falls into one of the listed categories of section140/3(e) of the Act which include a request in “categorical terms,” one requiring the collection of a substantial number of records, and one which cannot be done within the initial 5 business days without unduly burdening or interfering with the operation of the public body.
