Community Discussion of the creation of MacArthur Highway Corridor and South Village Implementation Plans

Peoria, IL (July 29, 2019) Last week, on July 16 and 17, 2019, Council Members Moore and Riggenbach hosted the first set of Community Revitalization planning meetings in the East Bluff, Near Northside, and Near Southside. These meetings were part of the City’s partnership with the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) to create a strategy for housing everyone can afford, including other issues such as mobility, community life, economy, education, and wellness. A second set of meetings will be held in the fall. At that time, results of a “Housing Needs” assessment will be added to the conversation, and Community members will be invited to workshop ideas for an overall revitalization strategy.
Before IHDA returns in the fall, IDG Architects will lead discussion for the development of a plan to revitalize the MacArthur Highway Corridor and South Village Neighborhood. A future plan for the Western Avenue Corridor, and a future development scenario for the Southern Gateway, will also be created. Discussion will be held on August 7, 2019 at 6:45 p.m., at PCCEO, 711 W. McBean Street, Peoria. This will immediately follow the HUD Consolidated Plan Outreach scheduled for 6 p.m.
