January 14, 2022 5:20 pm | Snow Plow Update from Public Works

Please see the below message from Sie Maroon, Deputy Director of Public Works

The COP Snow Fighters have been staged on the streets in anticipation of the snowfall that began falling a few minutes ago in Peoria.  We are expecting anywhere from 1-3” to a slight possibility of 2-4” from now through the overnight hours into Saturday morning.  The indicators that we have received show us receiving snowfall until approximately 9 or 10 AM tomorrow morning.  If we receive 2 or more inches of snow we will proceed into the residential routes for plowing and we will be applying salt treatment at the intersections in the neighborhoods.  We will move onto the neighborhood streets once the primary routed arterial streets are in safe travel conditions and after the snow stops falling.  Therefore there may be some snowpack on the streets before we get to them, depending on how much they are traveled on before we get to them.  The air and ground temperatures are definitely in our favor throughout the storm, so this should be a help to us.  However, the temperatures drop into the teens late Saturday night into mid-Sunday morning.  We will continue to monitor that timeframe for any refreeze of precipitation on the pavement.  Have a great evening, travel safe and with caution.
