Police Chief Echevarria to be Sworn In on Friday, July 30 at 1pm.

On Friday, July 30 at 1 pm, Stefanie Tarr, City Clerk, will swear in Eric P. Echevarria as the new Peoria Police Chief.  The ceremony will be held at City Hall, 419 Fulton Street, in Council Chambers.  There is limited seating because of  COVID-19 precautions, so the public is invited to view the live stream of the ceremony on the City’s YouTube channel, cityofpeoriatv.  Mayor Ali, City Manager Urich, and Chief Echevarria will speak at the ceremony.

The incoming Chief holds a Bachelor of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University and an Associate of Arts from Benedictine University.  He is also involved with the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association, the Puerto Rican Police Association, among others.  He also served as a Corporal for the United States Marine Corps.

A former Commander for the Elgin, Illinois Police Department, Echevarria has extensive experience as a Resident Officer, in addition to extensive work with Major Investigations, Juvenile Investigations, Gang Unit, Drug Unit, Technical Investigations, and more, having served with that department since 2001.
