Recycling, Yard Waste and Trash Collection

Peoria Disposal Company (PDC) is the contracted residential waste hauler for the City of Peoria. Garbage, yard waste and recyclables collection are currently provided to Peoria residential customers through a contract with PDC.

Trash and yard waste collection is provided weekly for residents within City limits who reside in single or up to 4-family unit homes. If an observed holiday falls on a weekday, trash collection will be delayed by one day. PDC observes the following six holidays each year: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Yard Waste: Yard waste consists of grass clippings, weeds, leaves, brush – NO household or animal waste. The pickup service is offered spring through fall, on a weekly basis and on the same day as other household garbage collection. The service is free through the City’s hauling contract. Free yard waste stickers are available at Public Works, Peoria Fire Stations and City Hall.

How to properly dispose of yard waste:

  • 30 gallon biodegradable paper yard waste bags, (30 lb. weight limit)
  • Maximum 95 gallon wheeled garbage can compatible with PDC’s truck lift mechanisms, with yard waste sticker attached, (50 lb. weight limit)
  • Cut and tied in bundles less than five feet long, weighing less than 50 lbs.
  • Using only rope or twine to bundle, (plastic and wire are not accepted)

Recycling: Curbside recycling service is available through PDC and at various recycling drop-off locations in Peoria County.

Service Fees: To offset a portion of the cost for these services, the City bills a fee of $14 per month. Under the City’s contract with PDC, the company is permitted to sell or rent trash carts for refuse and yard waste and to charge a deposit on the cart for participation in the City’s recyclables collection program.
