[ARCHIVED] 4/16/23 Aggravated Battery with a Firearm

(PEORIA, IL) Saturday, April 15, 2023, at approximately 9:11 a.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to a residence in the 2100 block of W. Lincoln regarding a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a male victim who told police he had been shot at. The victim sustained minor injuries from debris from a bullet strike near him, but he was not shot. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Zachariah Charles, fled the residence prior to officers arriving. Officers conducted a search along the flight path of the suspect and located a defaced handgun. Charles was later located in the area of Kettelle and Du Sable. After a brief foot pursuit, Charles was eventually apprehended in the 1500 block of W. Kettelle. Charles was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Aggravated Battery, Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Possession of a Firearm without a Valid FOID Card, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Theft, and Resisting Police. He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
