(PEORIA, IL) Saturday, April 22, 2023, at approximately 5:16 p.m. Peoria Police responded to the 2500 block of N. Sheridan on three separate Shot Spotter alerts totaling 8 rounds fired.
When officers arrived, they located an adult male victim with an apparent gunshot wound at Ellis and McClure. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID), Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Neighborhood Services Unit (NSU), Patrol Division and Crime Scene Unit (CSU) responded to the scene and initiated an investigation.
During the course of the investigation officers located a vehicle that fled the scene of the shooting at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on this vehicle, but the vehicle fled and eventually crashed at the intersection of High Street and Sheridan.
The driver, an adult male fled the vehicle and was apprehended near Landmark Apartments. The driver of the vehicle also sustained apparent gunshot wounds from the original incident at Sheridan and McClure. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers recovered multiple firearms during their investigation of this incident.
This incident is still under investigation.
