[ARCHIVED] 2022 Keep the Wreath Red Campaign

Holiday wreaths that will adorn the City of Peoria’s twelve fire stations from December 1st through New Year’s Day are more than just festive décor. The lighted wreaths are visual reminders that the season offers no holiday from fire-related accidents

Here’s how it works: Wreaths at all fire stations in the City of Peoria are illuminated with red bulbs. Peoria firefighters will replace a red bulb with a white bulb for each structure fire in a home or commercial building during the one-month period of observation.

During the 2021 “Keep the Wreath Red” holiday campaign, 15 fire-related incidents occurred with $781,200 in estimated damages and four civilian injuries.

The Illinois Fire Chiefs adopted the “Keep the Wreath Red” program in 1980 as an effective way to alert the community of fires caused by holiday decorations. The city of Peoria has been observing the program continuously since 1995.
