[ARCHIVED] 9/12/23 Death Investigation UPDATE

(PEORIA, IL) Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at approximately 7:52 p.m. Peoria Police responded to the intersection of Kansas and Wisconsin on a Shot Spotter alert of 4 rounds fired. 
When police arrived, they located a male juvenile with an apparent gunshot wound. 
The teen was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and Patrol Unit responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. 
There is currently no suspect information. This incident is under investigation.

UPDATE: 9/12/23
During the course of this investigation, Peoria Police detectives were able to identify the suspect in this case as a 14-year-old male.
On Monday, September 11, 2023, at approximately 6:18 p.m. Officers with the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) observed the 14-year-old male suspect walking in the area of Perry and Hancock Street.
SID Officers and Patrol Officers approached the juvenile and placed him into custody without incident in the 300 block of NE. Perry.
The juvenile was subsequently arrested for 1st Degree Murder.
The juvenile was later transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
