S Western Avenue will reopen to traffic on Friday, December 30, from W Malone Street to SW Adams Street. Landscaping work will resume in the spring of 2023. A startup date to finish the project will be determined and announced at a later date.
The Western Avenue Reconstruction Project began in early 2021 with reconstruction from W Malone Street to W Howett Street. Stage 2 of the reconstruction project began in March of 2022 from W Malone Street to SW Adams Street.
The total cost of the multi-year Western Avenue Reconstruction Project is $12.5 million.
Motorists are urged to be mindful while traveling on Western Avenue as traffic patterns have changed during reconstruction. Drivers should also take heed to new traffic signals as they will be on and functioning.
The project is vital in improving Peoria’s infrastructure. The public’s patience while this project is completed is appreciated.
