(PEORIA, IL) Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at approximately 4:22 p.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) observed two male juveniles that matched the description of individuals connected to an earlier stolen vehicle incident in the 100 block of W. McClure.
When
officers approached the juvenile subjects one of the males fled on foot. The second subject was detained and later released.
During a foot chase officers observed the fleeing juvenile discarding a handgun with an extended magazine.
With the assistance of Patrol, officers apprehended the 17-year-old male in the 300 block of W. McClure without further incident. Officers also recovered the handgun that was reported stolen.
The 17-year-old male was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Handgun Under 21, Possession of a Stolen Handgun, No FOID, and Resisting Police.
The juvenile was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
