[ARCHIVED] 11/13/23 Aggravated UUW/Obstructing Police/Aggravated Assault

(PEORIA, IL) Saturday, November 11, 2023, at approximately 8:03 p.m. Peoria Police attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation at the intersection of Nebraska and Knoxville.
As officers approached the vehicle the driver drove away at a high rate of speed. 
Officers did not pursue it. A short time later, the vehicle was located in the area of Perry and Abington, but as officers approached, the vehicle fled away at a high rate of speed.
During the course of the investigation, officers located the vehicle in the 3500 block of Monroe. As officers approached, the passenger identified as 24-year-old Cortez S. Aguirre exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The vehicle also fled the area at a high rate of speed.
After a brief foot chase, Aguirre was apprehended and placed into custody without further incident. Officers located a handgun with an extended magazine on Aguirre’s person.
Aguirre was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting Police.
He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
Sunday, November 12, 2023, at approximately 12:04 a.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the area of Morton Square Park on a call regarding trouble with a male. 
Officers were advised that the male was armed with a handgun.
When officers arrived, they located the fleeing vehicle and the driver, identified as 22-year-old Omar Denova. Denova then made motions as if he were pointing a weapon at the officer’s vehicle. Denova then quickly fled the scene in the vehicle at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue it.
The vehicle was located abandoned a short time later at Grand and War Memorial. 
Three occupants were observed fleeing from the vehicle.
Officers immediately conducted a search of the area with negative results.
At approximately 2:28 a.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2023, Peoria Police observed a different vehicle in the 3600 block of NE Monroe in front of a residence connected to Denova.
When officers approached the vehicle, they observed four occupants inside. The driver was identified as Denova.
Denova was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody.
Denova was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer, Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Obstructing Police, and Theft.
He was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
