(PEORIA, IL) Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at approximately 5:40 p.m. members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division/Street Crimes Unit (SCU) made contact with two male juveniles in the 300 block of E. Ravine. The two juveniles ran from officers.
After a brief foot chase SCU officers with the assistance of Patrol officers apprehended both subjects.
During the foot pursuit, one of the juveniles discarded a weapon. Officers immediately conducted a search along the flight path and recovered a handgun with an extended magazine.
Members of PPD’s Crime Scene Unit (CSU) responded to the scene and initiated an investigation. A PPD K-9 was also brought in to conduct a search of the area.
During the course of the investigation officers released one of the juveniles on scene and the other juvenile was transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes. The 15-year-old was subsequently arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Handgun Under 21 and Obstructing/Resisting Police.
The juvenile was transported to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
