(PEORIA, IL) Saturday, January 28, 2023, at approximately 1:31 a.m. Peoria Police responded to the 500 block of Main Street in reference to a bomb threat at a downtown hotel.
officers arrived at the above location, they assisted in the evacuation of the building. Hotel guest and staff were immediately moved to a secure location.
Members of the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) and a PPD K-9 responded to the scene and conducted a thorough check of the main lobby with hotel management. No suspicious items were located.
Once the main lobby area was secured, hotel guest and staff were brought back into the main lobby.
A K-9 officer then conducted a check of the large ballroom area and nearby rooms.
Once those areas were secured, guest were then moved into the ballroom space.
Moments later, a security sweep was conducted by the K-9 officer throughout the hotel. No suspicious items were located, and guest were then allowed to return to their rooms. No one was injured.
This incident is under investigation.

****UPDATE**** February 1, 2023
During the course of this investigation Peoria Police Detectives were able to identify a suspect in this incident as 30-year-old Val C. Burks. Burks was also identified as the suspect in two related incidents.
On February 1, 2023, members of the Peoria Police Department’s Special Investigations Division (SID) located Burks, who was taken into custody without incident.
Burks was transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes and subsequently arrested for 3 counts of Falsely Making a Terrorist Threat. (#23-1126; #23-1683; #23-1712)
Burks was transported to the Peoria County Jail.
