Advisory Committee on Police-Community Relations Open House
Thursday, March 23, 2023
March 14, 2023 (Peoria, IL) The public is invited to an open house with the Advisory Committee on Police-Community Relations on Thursday, March 23 from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. at ART Inc., 919 NE Jefferson Street. This committee advises the Chief of Police, the Mayor, and the City Council on matters to improve police-community relations. As a committee that provides independent means of communication and assistance between the citizens of Peoria and the Peoria Police Department, engaging with residents is one of the top priorities for this volunteer-run group. This is the first of quarterly meetings the group plans to host for the public.
The open house will include a brief introduction of committee members, followed by the opportunity for public comment and questions and answers if time allows. Committee Chair Shalandra Burch encourages the public to attend, stating, “We want to provide community members with the opportunity to learn more about our group and how we can be a bridge between residents and the Peoria Police Department.”
The Advisory Committee on Police-Community Relations meets monthly and is comprised of community members, representatives from the NAACP and Peoria Public Schools, and City staff. They currently have three openings.
If you are unable to attend but would like a public comment to be read into the record, please email Ms. Christina Kirby at ckirby@peoriagov.org by noon on March 23. Public comments will be read into the record at the end of the meeting. Please note that comments will be limited to five minutes. The meeting will conclude at 7:00 p.m. Any comments not read at this meeting will be read at the following Committee meeting.
Questions may be directed by email to Shalandra Burch, Chair Peoria Police Community Relations Advisory Committee.
