How To Use Your Cart / Cart Details

On your collection day, set the recycling cart at the curb or wherever your trash cart is picked up.

Carts need to be put out no later than 6 am on your collection day. They may be put out as early as 3 pm the day before.

  • Position your recycling cart three feet away from your trash cart. Ensure that the lid opening faces the street and your cart is positioned three feet away from any other carts.
  • Do not put needles, hazardous waste, yard, or electronic waste inside your cart.

Be sure the cart is not blocked by cars, snow, or mailboxes and is at least three feet away from other carts.

After pickup, move the recycling cart from the curb or alley within 24 hours. Place them in your garage or alongside your house or garage. They cannot be in the front or back of your house or block sidewalks or alleyways.

To take advantage of recycling collection, you must use the provided cart, and please remember it is the property of GFL Environment. If you have too much recycling for your cart regularly, you may request an additional 95-gallon cart at no cost.

What Can I Recycle?

The City of Peoria offers single-stream recycling, which means there's no need to sort materials. All acceptable materials can be put directly into your recycling cart, simply make sure they are empty and rinsed out.
