Occupation: A former high school social studies teacher, assistant wrestling coach and assistant football coach, Shaun McGinnes is principal of Peoria High School. He guides day-to-day operations of the school and is responsible for developing plans for continuous improvement and meeting the social, emotional, and academic needs of students, as well as the professional development of staff.
Community Involvement: Mr. McGinnes’ community involvement revolves around school activities and working with programs designed to encourage young people to be involved in their communities.
Education: Bachelor of science, social studies and teacher education, Western Illinois University; master of science, educational leadership and administration, Illinois State University
Three things he’s passionate about: “Creating opportunities for youth, coaching them to their potential, and holding myself and others 100 percent accountable.”
Three favorite hobbies: Football Sundays, fitness and Netflix binges
Career influence or inspiration: “I’ve had so many throughout the years. Definitely the teachers and principals that I have interacted with, both as a student and colleague. They have poured so much into me and I feel blessed that I have the opportunity to pay that back.”
