Occupation: Denise White is a sergeant in the juvenile bureau of the Peoria Police Department’s criminal investigations division. She supervises detectives handling cases involving juveniles as victims or suspects.

 

Community Involvement: Sgt. White is a mentor in the Bigs in Blue program of Heart of Illinois Big Brothers Big Sisters. She often does informal mentoring and relationship-building in her part-time jobs as security for the Loaves and Fishes Program of First United Methodist Church and CityLink

 

Education: Bachelor of science, criminal justice and sociology, Bradley University

 

Three things she’s passionate about: “My family, my career and my community.”

 

Three favorite hobbies: Logic and crossword puzzles, traveling and reading

 

Career Influence or Inspiration: Sgt. White’s career inspires her to help the younger generation see they really can be a force for positive change. “They don’t have to become a negative statistic.” Her mother, Odessa Warren, has been her inspiration and her husband, Louis Rickmon, has been her backbone. The support she received from the Lindsay family also inspired her. When she was younger, they provided free childcare so she wouldn’t have to drop out of college.
