Peoria Launches Banners and Boxes Beautification Program to Celebrate Local Artists and Enhance Public Spaces
The City of Peoria is proud to announce the launch of the Banners and Boxes Beautification Program, a new initiative designed to showcase the talents of local artists while enhancing the downtown and warehouse district. This innovative program will feature vibrant artwork displayed on electrical boxes and banners on light posts, creating an outdoor gallery that celebrates creativity and enriches the community. The artwork will be on display in the spring of 2025.
A total of 15 electrical boxes and 100 banners will display the art created by local artists. Artists who reside in Peoria or have a studio in Peoria are encouraged to apply. A total of 23 pieces of artwork will be selected by members of the Public Arts Advisory Commission and the City's Public Works Department at a special meeting. Artists will receive a $500 honorarium for each piece of artwork selected.
Artists can submit up to three applications. If an artist chooses to use the same image for a box application and a banner application, then they must use separate applications. This would count as two of the three submissions. Applications opened on February 1 and will close on March 22, 2025, at 11:59 pm. For full details and design requirements, please refer to the policy and application below.
To Apply:
- Read the policy below
- Fill out the form below
- Upload a high resolution photo of your artwork. If selected, the photo is what will be used on the banner or box, so try to make the file 300 dpi. If selected, we can have your art professionally photographed (see policy)
The program’s goals include:
- Celebrating Local Talent: Providing exposure and opportunities for local artists to showcase their work in highly visible public spaces.
- Enhancing Public Spaces: Adding color and creativity to downtown and the warehouse district to make these areas more welcoming and engaging.
- Driving Foot Traffic: Encouraging residents and visitors to explore the city and experience the growing collection of public artwork.
